Mr. Ali Shabbir, Engineering Group Manager at General Motors
How has Additive Manufacturing transformed Design Practice at General Motors?
Join us: Friday, 30th October 2020 @ 12:00pm GMT
General Motors has a long history of additive design and manufacturing. In this talk, I will speak about the benefits and applications of this technology as well as its impact on product design and development at GM.
Additive manufacturing enables design freedom and part performance not possible with many conventional manufacturing technologies. It is also a “digital native” technology, enabling a “digital thread” throughout the product development and production process. However, it is not without its challenges and own limitations. I will talk about the reality of Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) and implementing additive as an production design and manufacturing solution at GM.
Finally, I’ll speak about the importance of additive design and manufacturing education within industry to enable and accelerate AM adoption, which will lead to truly transformational impact on design practice.
This webinar is jointly presented by the Design Practice SIG and Design for Additive Manufacturing SIG. We hope you can join us for the webinar.
