Abstract
Shorter product lifecycles and increasing complexity of products, processes and information technology (IT) systems require efficient, computer-aided methods and tools to support product development. In product lifecycle management the world wide access to data stored in different systems is a key challenge in order to realize a holistic information integration. New internet technologies enable the provision of information in a suitable format and the application on mobile devices. In this paper the concept for data management based on modern internet technologies using RESTful (Representational State Transfer) web services is introduced. The concept enables the access to product data, simulation data and factory data stored in different data management systems by using URIs (Uniform Resource Identifiers). The concept is validated by two use cases, demonstrating its potentials by the use of mobile devices for a review of simulation data and for the building process of prototypes in manufacturing.
