Abstract

The complexity in organization increases drastically due to the increased
product and process diversity and ever-changing requirements. This is specially
the case for engineer-to-order (ETO) manufacturing with highly complex products
and system solutions. There, each new product-order means a new design
or even a new development based on specific customer requirements. In this
paper, a reference architecture model is proposed to cope with the increasing
complexity in ETO. The model offers a holistic and generic solution to increase
transparency and traceability in the organization, to reduce search time for
information and to facilitate coordination and communication.

Keywords: Model-based development, coping with complexity, increasing transparency, Engineer-to-order
